CHAPTER 28: Ham Aapke Hue

मेरी नज़र का सफ़र
तुझपे ही आके रुके
कहने को बाक़ी है क्या
कहना था जो कह चुके
मेरी निगाहें हैं
तेरी निगाहों की तुझे ख़बर क्या बेखबर

Aaranya’s POV

I was sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee as I just woke up. All my brothers and my father were rushing around the house. Some indulged in breakfast, and some in their work.

Yesterday it was Veer bhai sa’s wedding, and guess what, we have a new member in our house now.

Shivika bhabhi.

Yeah, so the thing now is that it's her pehli rasoi, and she doesn’t know how to cook. And being the gentle man my bhai sa is… he is cooking while she is watching him.

Well, that’s the reason I love Veer Bhai sa.

He is the perfect example of ‘apni pasandeeda aurat ke samne sher bhi billi ban jaata hai.’ heheh

Just when I was still processing the entire moment. A guard rushed inside.

He looked at Dev Bhai sa and said, “Udaipur’s Raja sa and his family are here.”

A smile came to my face, Raj is here, but then a small, confused frown followed. Why?

Dev Bhai sa nodded, and the guard respectfully escorted them inside. The scene next in front of me left me in shock.

Yuvraj was standing in the centre with a small smile surrounded by his family, who looked way too much happy, and some guards were near them carrying jewels, fruits, sweets, and sarees.

The confusion in my eyes just grew with each passing second.

Yuvraj came forward towards my baba sa.

As all the commotion was happening, Veer bhai sa and Shivika bhabhi came out of the kitchen.

We all looked at them in confusion before Raj spoke, “Kaka sa… Mai aapse Aaranya ka hath aur uske zindagi bhar ka sath maangne aaya hu.” He said softly while glancing at me, and I melted like butter standing there.

(“Uncle… I have come to ask you for Aaranya's hand in marriage and her lifelong companionship.”)

Baba sa’s face lit up as he hugged him, “Beta woh toh tumne 11 saal ki umar mai hi maang liya tha.” He said while teasing him and patting his back with pride.

(You had already asked for that when you were 11.)

As the families began congratulating each other, Raj came towards me and hugged me INFRONT OF EVERYONE.

“Raj sab dekh rahe hai,” I said in a low voice, trying to push him back.

(Raj everyone is looking.)

But he held me closer and murmured in that velvet voice of his against my neck, “Dekhne do!”

(Let them see)

Accepting my defeat, I wrapped my hands around him. “Mujhe laga nahi tha aapne seriously bola tha kal.” I asked, slowly reminded of my yesterday’s tease.

(I didn’t thought you said that seriously yesterday.)

He spoke firmly but still with fierce softness, “Aapko leke mai hamesha serious hota hu.”

(I am always serious when it's about you.)

I blushed slightly and hid my face in his chest.

COUGH! COUGH! COUGH!

“Are you sick?” I asked as I heard the coughing sounds and looked up at him in concern.

He shook his head, making me sigh in relief, but confusion then clouded both of us.

And boom! Realisation striked.

We pulled back… Him rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment while I looked down, cheeks slightly red.

Our families were staring at us with that ultimate tease in their eyes.

And as usual… The teasing session began.

“Bas bas thoda shadi ke baad ke liye bhi bacha lo.” His choti maa said, and our embarrassment grew.

(Enough enough leave something till the marriage also.)

After a few minutes and a bit more teasing, Veer bhai sa noticed that we looked quite uncomfortable, so he signalled everyone to stop.

I went towards his parents to touch their feet and seek blessings as our relationship just been accepted.

But before I could touch their feet, his mother pulled me up and then embraced me warmly. “Betiyan Paao nahi chuti.” She said softly while her father patted my head with affection.

(Daughters don’t touch feet.)

I nodded, feeling overwhelmed by the motherly love.

They gestured to the guards to keep all the things in a corner, and I realised that it was all ‘shagun ka saman.’

Yuvraj looked at Shivika and Veer bhai sa before speaking with a slight teasing and undeniable affection, “Ohh Pehli rasoi chall rahi thi?”

(Ohh pehli rasoi was going on?)

Veer Bhai sa nodded, “Haan kheer bana rahi thi woh”

(Yes, she was making rice pudding.)

Everyone nodded, not wanting to speak of Shivika’s inability to cook and make her uncomfortable.

“Waise Rajendra rishta toh sabko manzoor tha yeh toh hame pehle se hi pata tha. Toh hum us liye nahi aaye hai.” His father said, and we all looked at him in confusion.

(Well Rajendra we all already knew that everyone is in favour of this alliance. So we have not come here for that.)

He continued, “Ham shadi aur engagement ki date fix karne aaye hai.”

(We are here to fix the marriage and engagement dates.)

As soon as the words escaped his mouth, all my brothers turned towards me with concern and worry.

“Are you ready?”

“Do you want to marry?”

“Are you sure? We can delay this.”

“You want to marry?”

Their protectiveness makes me smile as I nodded giggling, amused.

In my heart, it was very clear to me that yes, I am absolutely ready to marry Raj.

I looked at him with a serene smile and saw him looking back with a full-blown grin.

While we were busy looking at each other, we didn’t notice a priest entering the room with his book.

Aditya bhai sa pinched me gently, bringing me out of my trance, while Aryan did the same to him.

The priest set down his books, opened. Our parents handed our kundalis to him.

The serious expression melted down with softness as he looked up. “35.5 gun mil rahe hai dono ko.” He said softly.

(35.5 qualities are similar in both of them.)

Everyone looked shocked, but Veer bhai sa spoke up, his voice laced with protectiveness, “What happened to that 0.5? Is everything okay? Is there any problem?”

The priest just shook his head before speaking with respect, “Nahi Hukum sa. Everything is in the best way possible aur 36 gun wali Jodi toh srif Narayan aur laxmi ki hoti hai. Ham toh manushya hai.”

(……………………….. and the couple with 36 qualities is only of Narayan and Lakshmi. We are human beings.)

All the people present in the room nodded in understanding, and within a minute an excited ripple spread in the room.

Just then, Shivika bhabhi spoke, "Khud puch rahe hai kuch problem toh nahi hogi aur khud ke srif 32 gun mile the." She said while taunting Veer Bhai sa in a low voice, but all of us heard it and tried to stiffle our laughs.

(Your own 32 qualities only matched, and here you are asking if the qualities would match or not.)

"Areyyy Shivuuu!" Bhai sa whined totally out of his usual charecter and all of us chuckled.

(Shivuuu!)

The priest then announced the dates. “Ek date 2 hafte baad ki hai aur ek 11 mahine baad ki.”

(One date is after 2 weeks and one is after 11 months.)

Yuvraj instantly said, “Nahiii! 2 hafte baad wali sahi hai.”

(Noo! The date after 2 weeks is fine.)

Everyone looked at him with widened eyes, and he suddenly realised that he said that too loudly.

“Haan mai bas keh rha tha.” He said, trying to cover, but failed.

(I was just saying)

“Ji hame bhi 2 hafte baad wali date chalegi,” I said softly, drawing all the attention towards me.

(Yes The date after 2 weeks will work for me too.)

“Par” I added with a mischievous sparkle in my eye, making everyone turn towards me with confused and curious gazes.

(But)

“Yes. What?” Yuvraj asked, sounding a bit panicked.

I tried to suppress my giggle and look serious as I began listing out items. “I want all the functions to happen mehendi, haldi, sangeet, bachelor's, then the wedding,” I said in a low tone, stretching out each word.

For a whole damn minute, everyone was quiet, and then they burst into laughter.

Yuvraj sighed as if he was holding his breath. “Bas itni si baat thi. Meri toh jaan hi atak gayi thi.” He said in a relaxed tone.

(Just this. My breath was stuck in my throat.)

Soon, the entire environment drifted to a calmer tone as everyone began discussing other things.

But my mind… It was still on my engagement next week. Yaeyyy!!

Yuvraj’s POV

I already waited for Anya for ten whole years, and it didn’t feel that cruel, but these two weeks have been really tough.

I wish I could just turn the bar for time so it would run faster, and I would have Anya all to myself forever as my wife.

We haven’t even met since the last THREE DAYS when our rishta was fixed.

She told me that she is busy completing all her work because she wants to take a week off for the wedding functions.

What she wants to say is reasonable. Totally. But what about me? I am just getting two phone calls a day.

Pheww!

I was busy arguing with my own fate when a knock on my office door startled me.

Lakshay was standing on the door with a smirk.

“Kya hai?” I asked, almost irritated, as that guy had been teasing me to death about my marriage.

(What happened?)

“Kuch nahi mai toh bas dekhne aaya tha hone wala ghar ke damad ko.” He said, running his hand over my cheek with fake seduction.

(Nothing, I just came to see the to be son in law of the house.)

My irritation reached its peak, and I held his wrist. “What is the problem with you. Let me live in peace.” I asked while roughly removing his hand from my cheek.

He laughed while trying to get his voice as he spoke, “Arey arey ghar ke hone wale damad ko toh ghussa aa raha hai.”

(Oh god the to-be son of the house is getting angry.)

I looked at him with a completely done look and punched him.

He gave me his iconic, dramatic betrayed look and plopped on the couch, sulking.

“Mele babu ko toh ab meli parwa hi nhi hai.” He said dramatically, placing his hand over his chest and making his voice sound like a heartbroken lady with a childlike voice.

(My baby doesn’t care for me anymore.)

I groaned at his dramatics, “Tu ja na yaar. Mujhe kaam karna hai.” I said while giving him a look.

(You go. I have work to do.)

He just shrugged, getting back to his usual character and said, “Toh kar na maine konsa tere pair ya hath pakad rakhe hai.”

(So do your work, I am holding neither your legs nor your hands.)

I gave him a sarcastic smile before walking back to my desk, muttering some gibberish that even I don’t understand.
