CHAPTER 25: Shararat Aur Sukoon

Kabhi haath pakad ke tu mera chal de, chal de
Kabhi haath chhuda ke main tera chal doon, chal doon
Main thodi si moody hoon, tu thodi si tedhi hai
Kya khoob ye jodi hai teri-meri

Aane do, aane do, dil mein aa jaane do
Keh do muskurahat ko, "Hi, hi, hi, hi"
Jaane de, jaane do, dil se chale jaane do
Keh do ghabrahat ko, "Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye"

Author’s POV

Aaranya and Yuvraj were on the Ferris wheel, laughing and talking about things they had missed in the past.

Just then, the wheel stopped at the top with a slight jerk. The view from there was filled with city glow and warmth. People were bustling in the entire fair, everyone enjoying each other’s company.

Yuvraj was talking about a funny incident in his company when he felt that Aaranya wasn’t listening anymore.

“So you know what he did—" He turned towards her, his laughter and words immediately cut short as he saw tears glistening in her eyes as she looked at the view.

Yuvraj’s cheerfulness instantly switched to a concerned mode as he gently cupped her cheeks and wiped her tears.

In his heart, he knew, something was not right. His Aaranya doesn’t cry until and unless it's bothersome.

Could it be the height? Hell nahh..

Could it be something related to their past? Probably.

“What happened, Anya? Are you okay, baccha? Why are you crying?” He asked her softly, his voice a gentle coo to her racing thoughts.

“Bolo na meri chalak lomdi", He said playfully, trying to lighten up her mood.

(Tell me, my clever fox)

She turned her tear-streaked face towards him, lifting her eyes to meet his. His heart instantly clenched as he saw her crying as he hugged her tightly, trying to absorb whatever pain was troubling her.

After a few minutes, Aaranya gathered proper words as she started speaking between her sobs. Her voice was getting muffled against Yuvraj’s chest. But his heart recognised every letter without a second’s delay.

“Aapko yaad hai… w—we were here on the…. Top of the Ferris wheel, discussing… engagement rings, but the next day…. It was gone. And now we a—are here again… What if?... Tha—“ She tried to form words, her voice breaking off at each sentence from the overwhelming weight of emotions.

(You remember….)

“Shh, Anya, baby, why are you taking it negatively. Think of it in a positive light. Probably god wanted to take our test and see we passed with flying colours. Didn’t we?” I replied to her while explaining softly and gently caressing her hair to comfort her.

She looked at me with a knowing spark in her eyes and nodded. “Yes, you are right. I ishq you, Raj.”

He chuckled. “Ishq you too, Raj ki jaan.”

(…. Raj’s life)

She instantly turned a deeper shade of red, and teasing her a bit more, He placed a soft, lingering kiss on her cheek.

Soon after a few minutes, the Ferris wheel began moving again, and Anya started screaming.

Is she scared? Hmm… Probably not, she has never been.

“What happened, Anya? Why are you screaming jaana?” He asked her, piqued by curiosity and concern.

She looked at me with a mischievous glint in her eye and no trace of fear. “Ahm nothing much. I just thought if I did not scream on the Ferris wheel, then what's the point of coming?"

“So its all fake and just an act?” He asked her gently, trying to understand her point, which sounds ridiculous, but hey… hey anyways.

She nodded excitedly, and He shook his head in amusement.

Author’s POV

Soon they were back from the Ferris wheel, and Aaranya looked at another 360-degree ride.

“Raj! Let’s go there.” She said while pointing towards the ride, excitedly.

Yuvraj simply nodded and complied without any arguments. “Whatever my Princess says!”

As they were walking towards the ride hand in hand. Aaranya stopped in her tracks as the smell of warm, buttery pav bhaji and crispy, tangy golgappe entered.

Yuvraj also stopped and slowly turned towards her, raising his eyebrows in confusion “What happened, Jaana?”

“Ahm… Let's eat pav bhaji and golgappe first, and then we will go on the ride. Pleaseeee!!!” She said, making a cute puppy eye gesture and stretching the last ‘e’ in please.

“No. Anya, we can’t. It’s a full 360-degree ride. You’ll get sick.” He tried to convince her, but Aaranya stood stubborn in her words and shook her head.

“No…No…No. Please let’s go naaaaa!!!” She said, looking at him, cutely trying to convince him with her antics.

At last, when Yuvraj saw that he had no way out, he just sighed in defeat. “Okay, but don’t say. I didn’t warn you.”
Aarnaya nodded excitedly and practically ran towards the stall from where the aroma was coming.

After, they had their food. They both came out of the stall with delightful grins pasted on their faces.

“The food was so good, na?” Yuvraj asked while wiping his hands with the tissues.

“Yess it was really good. Now let’s go to the ride.” She said and started walking.

Yuvraj tried to warn her one last time, but she stood firm on her stubbornness and brought two tickets.

He accepted his defeat and went after her towards the ride. He kept warning her again and again till the ride started.

As they came back from the ride. Aarnaya got off feeling a bit dizzy.

“Ahh, I don’t feel good.” She said in a slightly weak voice, and before any warning, she puked. Some fell on Yuvraj’s shoes, slightly dirtying them.

Aaranya instantly looked guilty and apologetic. “Sorry woh… mai… maaf kar do…”

(Sorry, I… me… please forgive me.)

Yuvraj looked at her with a soft gaze, not angry about her not listening or his dirty shoes.

He simply brought a water bottle from another stall along with a few tissues.

He wet the tissues and gently wiped her face clean before handing her the water to take a few sips.

Then, he cleaned his own shoes with the tissues.

“Its okay, see… Everything is fine now.” He softly reassured her in a soft, loving voice.

Just after saying that, he rushed from there as if he remembered something suddenly. In a few minutes, he came back with a packet of orange candies in his hands – sweet and sour.

“Yeh lo… accha lagega.” He gave her the candies with a soft and gentle expression.

(Take this… You will feel good.)

She took it from him gratefully while pecking him on the cheek. “Thank You!”

“Areyy yaar tum bhi na. Chalo ab baaki shops explore karte hai.” He said while taking her hand in his, intertwining their fingers and walking towards the shops.

(You… Come now, let’s explore some shops.)

Aaranya giggled at his expression and walked with him while chewing the candies and giving him some in between.

They stopped by a jhumka store, “Yaarrr Rajjj! Look at these jhumkas, they are so pretty.” Aaranya said while admiring the earrings.

Yuvraj smiled at her innocence and walked behind her to the store.

“Konsa wala lu?” She asked, a bit confused, while holding up two pairs of beautiful earrings.

(Which one should I take?)

She waited for a few minutes for the response, but as she got none, she turned towards him in disappointment, only for her eyes to be widened in shock.

“What are you doing?” She suddenly screamed, shock taking over her entire face.

While Yuvraj just shook his head… while holding two large bags with all the jhumkas packed in his hands.

He looked at her, feigning innocence as if buying the entire shop wasn’t a big deal.

“Why did you do that?” She asked him as he paid the shopkeeper with a hefty amount to tip.

He just shrugged, “You liked them all? Didn’t you? So I had to get them for you.” She said while cutting through her frustration, and a soft smile took over her face.

“You didn’t need to do that. I like many things, but that doesn’t mean that you have to get them all for me.” She said softly, her voice filled with gratitude and emotion.

“Of course I have to do it.” He said stubbornly, his voice sounding cute.

Aaranya laughed at his stand, on his own words.

The rest of the day at the fair passed with their giggles, chatter and lovely talks.

Sneak Peek for Chapter Twenty Six

“Bhaiya ka makeup karne ja rahi hai kya?” Aaliya asked, looking at the makeup supplies in my hand, in confusion.

(Are you going to do bhaiya’s makeup?)

I nodded, “Aur kya mere bhai sa apni party mai toh acche lagne chahiye na.” I said and went outside towards Bhai sa’s royal king chambers.

(Of course, my brother should look good at his own party.)

I was about to knock when I heard some hushed whispers from inside. All the men were talking about something.
